Our project aims to augment educational experiences, with technology integrated learning, at public schools in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. The school to be selected will serve primarily children and teachers of Mayan communities and will benefit the educational experiences of that community for years to come.
In Yucatan, indigenous students face stark educational inequality, with only 35% completing elementary school. Schools lack technology, widening the digital divide and limiting progress. Language barriers worsen the issue, as resources are often only in Spanish, leaving Maya-speaking students behind. These combined challenges restrict educational access, retention, and the ability to offer culturally appropriate learning for indigenous students in Mexico.
Our project tackles educational inequities by providing technology and specialized teacher training at an indigenous Maya school in Yucatan. Teachers gain digital skills and confidence through training, allowing them to impart new methods to current generations of Maya students. These culturally tailored tools help overcome language barriers, creating an inclusive pathway to improved learning outcomes and preserving Maya heritage through education.
The purpose of this project is to work to reduce educational inequality in Indigenous Maya communities in Mexico. By equipping a school with technology and empowering local teachers it creates a lasting legacy of culturally inclusive education. This impact will resonate across generations, preserving Maya language and heritage while providing students with enhanced learning opportunities, bridging traditional knowledge with 21st-century skills.
