Uganda Refugee Health Insurance & Development Fund
By Rubanga David | Program Director
As of April 2026, the Uganda Refugee Health Insurance and Development Fund continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable refugee households in the West Nile region. Thanks to the faithful support of our donors, we continue to provide free health services to six refugee families through the Go-Card insurance program, helping them access essential medical care without delay or financial burden.
The journey of this project has made encouraging progress. Among the successes, one child supported by the program recovered from a serious malaria infection because the insurance scheme covered the treatment costs in time.
The impact of this initiative reaches beyond treatment alone. By assisting six refugee families, the project is helping to build greater stability, protection, and hope for children and caregivers alike. In addition to healthcare, we are providing educational support to children in these families, strengthening their opportunities for a safer, more secure future.
This work remains possible because of your partnership. Your generosity continues to sustain a vital source of care and support for refugee families in West Nile. We sincerely thank you for standing with us.

We are grateful to share an update on the Uganda Refugee Health Insurance and Development Fund, made possible by the continued generosity of our donors. As of December 2025, your support has enabled us to provide free healthcare access to six refugees through the Go-Card insurance program. This support has ensured timely and dignified medical care for vulnerable families who would otherwise face significant barriers to accessing health services.
In 2025, we have witnessed both hope and hardship. One of the children previously supported through this project survived a severe malaria episode because Go-Card insurance covered the cost of treatment. Sadly, we also experienced a profound loss when one beneficiary passed away, leaving her daughter, Ella, orphaned. Despite this tragedy, we remain fully committed to supporting Ella’s health and education, ensuring she can continue in school and receive the care she needs to thrive.
Beyond healthcare, this project continues to strengthen family stability and resilience. Local host families supporting refugees now care for six individuals, with access to healthcare and education for the children in their care. We cannot do this work alone. Your continued partnership is essential to sustaining this lifeline for refugee families and ensuring that children like Ella are not left behind.
Thank you for standing with us and making this impact possible.

Ella’s Story
One remarkable story is that of Ella, a young girl who has recently returned to school, now in Primary Five. Despite the recent loss of her mother, Ella’s health has remained stable due to the health insurance provided through our programs. Her resilience is a testament to the positive impact of your generosity (See picture of Ella)
The continued donations are not just meeting immediate needs; they are laying the groundwork for sustainable change. We are grateful for your trust and support, which enable us to share more stories of transformation in the months ahead.
