Uganda currently hosts more than 1.5 million refugees, making it the top African country and one of the top five hosting countries worldwide. This project aims to provide free health insurance and development funds for refugees. Your donation will enable refugees to access free healthcare at local hospitals and acquire entrepreneurial skills to start and grow their businesses. Refugees can become entrepreneurs and benefit themselves and their families.
Although the Ugandan government is working closely with partners, refugees with preexisting conditions struggle to access essential healthcare services in camps and urban areas; moreover, more than 71% of refugees in Uganda do not work, which creates an even more significant challenge for them. In addition, refugees are 35% less likely to be employed than Ugandans, making it difficult to provide healthcare and education for themselves and their children at local hospitals and schools.
This initiative offers refugees and vulnerable host communities free healthcare and entrepreneurial training. Refugees are enrolled and given the Go-Card insurance card, which covers local hospitals' healthcare expenses. During facilitated skilling and training sessions, refugees are grouped with host communities to share business ideas, network, and receive support to start and grow their income-generating ventures.
The project will provide refugees with free medical treatment and care, earn them income to afford basic needs and invest in their futures, impact the health and livelihood of refugees and local communities, and lift them out of poverty. This will improve their well-being, stability, and mental health and contribute to the community's economic and social prosperity.
