Typhoon Kristine has caused widespread flooding and landslides in northeast Philippines. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the typhoon has affected a total of 569,524 families, or 2,656,446 individuals. Of these, 239,200 individuals are currently sheltered in 5,791 evacuation centers across impacted regions. This project will support our partners in the Philippines and provide relief items, including hot meals and clothing, to affected communities.
The A-PAD Philippines team has conducted a needs assessment and reported the following needs: 1) Temporary Shelter: Increased space in evacuation centers is needed to accommodate displaced families; 2) Food and water; 3) Hygiene kits: Soap, toothpaste, sanitary napkins and disinfectants and clean dry clothes and underwear; 4) Medical Assistance: First aid supplies and medical personnel are required in evacuation centers, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
A-PAD PH, in collaboration with local volunteers and partners, has begun distributing hot meals and clothing. Initial data gathering has taken place in several towns in Albay and in Naga City. To address water scarcity, water filters will be deployed in Libon, Albay.
This project will provide for the immediate needs of the affected communities and relieve their suffering.
