Following the generous contribution from our donors for the Empower 220 women in Kenya with$20 for 2 chicken, we set out to start on the groundwork of the project. In the month of July, we managed to link up with partners who are key in helping us kickstart the project. Among those we met are, Farming Systems Kenya, who roll out programmes to educate farmers on the best farming practices especially on chicken farming in Bomet County of Kenya. We also met with Kuku Chic, who are suppliers of the improved indigenous chicken and they came in handy during the capacity building exercise with the selected farmers in Sotik Sub-county of Bomet. The procurement process is currently on going for the chicken and distribution is set to take place this August 2021.
The selected farmers are well prepared with the knowledge of managing chicken and are preparing themselves to receive the chicken which will have already undergone full vaccinations to prevent any diseases and this will enhance their survival rate. We at Hand in Hand Eastern Africa are grateful for the contributions that we have so far received towards the project.
