We are pleased to announce that on 20th of February the President of Peace Winds Korea and the Division Director have departed to the scene of the Turkiye-Syria earthquake to provide support to those in need in Turkey and Syria. We are grateful for their leadership and dedication to our mission, and we look forward to their safe return from the affected areas.
Standing in Solidarity: The President's Letter Before Departing for the Turkiye-Syria Earthquake
"We are leaving for the field of the Turkiye-Syria earthquake.
Peace Winds Korea is a new organization that has been established for three years. It is not easy to raise money on a large scale like larger organizations. However, we strive to fill in the blind spots in the field, where other organizations may not be able to reach.
In the aftermath of the Ukrainian War, we set up a refugee shelter in Kishinau, the capital of Moldova, where initial support was not available, and provided supplies to those in need. We recognized the prolonged nature of the conflict and understood that it was crucial to maintain a psychological barrier in the long run. After the emergency relief, we focused on ways to support the refugees in their daily lives. Currently, Peace Winds Korea supports Ukrainian pet families and employs young refugees to manage evacuation centers. We also support the host community of Kishinau, including host family support and the distribution of orphanage supplies.
Although we have run out of fundraising power, we intend to continue supporting the refugees and maintaining our activities until the war is over and reconstruction begins.
In Turkiye, many families lost their loved ones due to the earthquake, and the Turkish government estimates that 84,726 buildings in 11 states have been damaged. We believe it is crucial to provide immediate reconstruction and emergency relief.
The Syrian refugees in Turkiye are also facing a significant challenge. Many of them lost their lives and fled to Turkiye due to the civil war, and now they have suffered once again due to the earthquake. They have been excluded from shelter and support because of their nationality, and many are now returning to Syria.
We are going to the site because we believe we can make a difference. There are blind spots everywhere that only small, dedicated organizations like ours can afford to address.
We sincerely thank our sponsors who sympathize with and support Peace Winds Korea's activities. We hope that everyone is safe and your life filled with well-being and peace.
Best regards,
Koo Doo Hwan President of Peace Winds Korea
