Sitio Bakal, one of the most vulnerable communities in the Philippines, lacks electricity, clean water, and stable livelihoods. Many families live on less than $8 a day, and children often drop out from school due to lack of basic skills. This project strengthens the child-care center by repairing its building, providing materials, solar power, and stipends for the teacher. It will equip over 120 children with basic skills, reduce dropouts, and help the community move toward dignity and hope.
Families in Sitio Bakal were relocated decades ago with promises of public services that never came. Most survive on unstable jobs like scavenging or construction. Many children drop out of school due to poverty and weak basic skills, making the child-care center essential. For over a decade it has survived through a dedicated volunteer teacher and small but maximum contributions of parents $3 per month, which cover only a fraction of costs, leaving the center struggling to sustain operations.
This project will strengthen the child-care center by supplying educational materials, repairing its aging building, installing solar panels, and providing stipends for the teacher. These improvements will make the center sustainable and allow children to learn in a safe and more supportive environment. The project will build basic educational skills, reduce school dropouts for both boys and girls in the village, and expand opportunities for children to realize their full potential.
This project will help children in disadvantaged areas build a strong foundation through basic education, enabling them to live with confidence regardless of their background. Community members, who have actively supported the center, will also find hope in their children's education. Such positive momentum is expected to contribute to the future development of the village.
