Dear Donors,
This is Dinora from Peace Winds Korea. I hope you, your all loved ones are safe and well following this week’s series of earthquakes affecting communities across Türkiye and Syria.
I am writing to update you on the emergency relief activities that Peace Winds has been carrying out in response to the earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6, 2023. As you may be aware, this devastating earthquake has caused immense damage, resulting in more than 40,000 fatalities.
Peace Winds, with the support of our partners, has been on the ground since the early days of the disaster, working tirelessly to provide emergency relief to those affected by this tragedy. Our team has been working around the clock to provide food, water, shelter, and medical aid to those who have been affected.
At present, the situation on the ground remains challenging. As the death toll continues to rise, there is a growing need to provide adequate support to the families of those who have been affected. The disposal of dead bodies is also a critical issue, as the low temperatures have caused some deaths during the night.
Despite these challenges, our teams are working hard to address the needs of the affected communities. We have been able to provide shelter and blankets to families, as well as water and food supplies. Medical teams are also providing critical care to those who have been injured, and we are working to prevent the spread of diseases that could arise due to the unsanitary conditions. Our relief teams continue to provide medical and emergency supplies at the site of the earthquake. We have been conducting demand surveys to better understand the specific goods and amounts needed by the affected communities. Personal hygiene products, water, food, snacks, wet tissues, and hygiene products, as well as baby products such as diapers and heating equipment, are in high demand.
To ensure the safe and efficient distribution of relief supplies, we have developed a "family package" for 100 households. Each package contains enough supplies to sustain a family of five for several days, including water, food, hygiene products, stoves, and pet food where needed. Our teams have been working closely with local shops to source the necessary supplies.
Despite the challenging conditions on the ground, we have received tremendous support from local communities. Turkish interpreters and drivers accompanying our teams, as well as acquaintances from the disaster-stricken area and local Turks, have been instrumental in helping us select, transport, and store supplies. We are grateful for their assistance and cooperation.
As the relief efforts continue, we are committed to supporting the affected communities and ensuring that they receive the aid they need. We will keep you updated on our progress, and we are thankful for your continued support.
Finally, we would like to share with you a videos (links below) from the earthquake site that provides a glimpse into the situation on the ground. We hope that this video helps to convey the urgent need for support in Turkey and encourages others to join us in this critical relief effort.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Dinora
