In early morning of 6th of February (local time), a huge earthquake struck southern part of Turkey and more than 4,800 people have died, more than 20,000 people have been injured (as of 17:00(JST) 7th Feb.) JEN has been providing assistance to Syrian refugees and host communities with a partner organization in exactly the same areas, Gaziantep in Turkey where the earthquake hit. In order to support people's lives and livelihoods, we will provide emergency assistance to the affected people.
The earthquake of 7.8 magnitude has caused devastation, thousands of buildings have collapsed, and rescue operations continue for those trapped under the rubble. Despite the cold weather, many people spent the night on the streets for fear of the buildings collapsing. JEN provides emergency assistance needed to support people affected by the disaster to hold on to their lives and rebuild their livelihoods.
As emergency response, JEN is considering of providing affected people with tents, blankets, winter clothing, and other items. The assistance is tailored to the ever-changing needs of the people and is provided where it is most needed at the time. Headquarter of our partner organization is in Gaziantep, which is one of the most affected areas. JEN ensures that we deliver your warm support to those who are most vulnerable.
JEN has been providing food assistance to vulnerable Syrian refugees and host communities in Turkey. After the emergency assistance phase, which supports people's lives and livelihoods, JEN will continue its activities to support the self-reliance of those who are suffering from the devastating situation.
