Malaria is common and courses havoc by killing children and pregnant women in Zambulkura and its surrounding communities especially the peak period in the raining season, June - October. In some cases people have to walk 40km to the nearest hospital in Nalerigu, while some communities get cut off by flooded rivers.when adults gets malaria they cannot work in their farms and it affects the family income. severe malaria in children stops them going to school, and develop disabilities or deaths
Since 2017 our NGO has been carrying out yearly malaria testing and treatment in 5 villages and indication shows reduction in the deaths of children due to malaria in Zambulkura school, so we scale up to 9 villages targeting 6000 children and pregnant women. A ten member medical team and malaria medicines will be sent from Accra to test and treat victims. Women will be taught how to minimize mosquitoes bite, and children with severe malaria sent to hospital and we pay their bills for them
Treating malaria early improves the health status of the people. In adults it enables them work in their farms, increase productivity and families incomes. In pregnant mothers it reduces underweight child birth and maternal mortality. In children it enables them go to school regularly to improve quality of their education and future lives, end malaria complications and permanent disabilities. We are seeking funding to build a health facility in the area to make healthcare easily accessible
