Many fishing communities in Ghana have limited or no nearby healthcare facilities, leaving fisherfolk without access to timely medical treatment. Long hours at sea, poor living conditions, and poverty increase the risk of illness and injuries among fishing families. This project will provide free medical care, medicines, health screening, and outreach services for 350 vulnerable fisherfolk living in underserved coastal communities.
Fisherfolk in remote coastal areas often struggle to access healthcare because clinics are far away or unavailable. Many suffer from malaria, infections, body pain, untreated injuries, and other health conditions linked to harsh working environments and poor sanitation. Due to low income and transportation challenges, many delay treatment until conditions become severe.
This project will organize mobile healthcare outreach visits to fishing communities to provide free consultations, essential medicines, health screening, and treatment for common illnesses and injuries. Health workers will also provide education on hygiene, disease prevention, workplace safety, and early healthcare seeking.
This project will improve healthcare access and health outcomes for 350 fisherfolk in underserved coastal communities. It will reduce untreated illnesses, improve disease prevention awareness, support healthier livelihoods, and strengthen access to basic healthcare services in fishing communities.
