Build a Classroom w/ Travel Influencer Secrets

Education isn't just about getting a good job—it lights every stage of the journey to a better life. It's essential for self-esteem, financial security, social justice, health, and in the long run, community and economic development. And this is just the beginning.

Yet, nearly 70% of the 1.13 million primary school-aged children in Kenya live in rural areas with a shortage of well-funded schools, trained teachers, and books and supplies. Students often have to walk several kilometres to reach the schools, which are usually small with large class sizes.

This was the case for people living in the poverty and conflict-affected communities near Subukia, Nakuru County, Kenya until supporters like you came along with support for Ndatho Hope Primary School.

Thank you—every gift matters, especially yours! The reality is that we have been able to do so much more because of donors like you and continue to work every day to ensure brighter futures for students and their communities. 

As we work together to raise funds for an additional classroom to enable an additional 45 students to attend class, some for the very first time, we thought it was a great time to share the highlights of success achieved at the school so far. 

• Opened in 2017, there are 329 registered learners at the school, from early childhood education to Grade 8. 
• We installed a borehole well with a solar-powered pump and 10,000-litre storage tanks that provide water to the school and surrounding villages.
• Three modern Kindergarten classes have been built and resourced, serving as a safe haven for over 60 students.
• The school is now well fenced with flowers and trees planted on its campus. Also in process is the building a gate to increase the security of the students and school.
• The school has a new and modern library equipped with reading tables, chairs, storybooks and modern computers— a first for Village Impact schools and a rare feat for any primary school in Kenya. A solar-powered electrical grid has also been set up to power the library.
• We believe that everything can change when students see beyond their day-to-day environment and are exposed to the world of possibilities that await them. Recently, students from Ndatho participated in Village Impact's "Grade 8 Trip," which allowed students from all Village Impact-supported primary schools to travel to a nearby zoo outside their community. There were many firsts! Bus rides, concrete roads, learning about animals, and the squeals of laughter on amusement park rides were highlights for many of our learners.
• Ndatho students also received quarterly distributions of Emergency Hygiene Kits.  In each distribution, every child in the school received a 3-month supply of liquid soap and essential items like masks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, new underwear, lotion and more. This intervention helped prevent the spread of COVID-19 in families and communities. Children reported feeling proud to maintain a higher level of cleanliness in their lives. Parents sent profound thanks for the supplies that provided dignity and health for their kids. Teachers and principals sent many messages of gratitude on behalf of their learners, whose cleanliness, self-esteem and confidence soared due to the intervention.
