Dear Supporters and Friends,
Since the inception of the project nearly a year ago. we raised over $21,500 for funding minibus trips from Gaza to Jerusalem hospitals. Thanks to your donations and support, we were able to achieve our goal of doubling the number of minibus trips for the year. During the last quarter, we increased the monthly number of chartered minibus trips by an aditional ten trips in March and April. Unfortunately, that increase declined to five trips in May due to temporary border crossing closures for security reasons.
This has been a busy quarter for us. The salutory effects of improvements in the operational efficiency of the Road To Recovery instituted by Amir Adar are making their mark in all aspects of our growing organization. Amir established a forum with special-purpose teams, each addressing one of the following areas: special-events, media and advertising, public relations and social media, operations, fund raising, recruiting/volunteer retention, and branding and graphic design. We have had considerable number of activities in these areas by the teams throughout the quarter. On a related matter, attached is a link to a story about The Road To Recovery that was run in the main news program of Israeli TV Channel 2 (includes English subtitles).
One of our volunteers, Eyal Ofek, has begun offering remote real-time Arabic-Hebrew translation services in early morning hours. These services are already in use and provide much needed communication assistance between our drivers and their Palestinian passengers. One of our volunteers reflects on how the translation service helped her while on duty:
“About a month ago I was asked to drive for the first time at eight o'clock in the morning. Driving in morning hours means a lot of time standing in traffic. My five and a half year old cute passenger was coughing and looked weak. I saw in the mirror how she was clinging to her father. I decided to call Eyal to help me find out if the girl was too cold in the car.
Eyal was already at work but answered my call anyway. He was nice and matter of fact but also used my unsuccessful attempts to speak Arabic to introduce humor into the scene. I was reminded again about what Yuval refers to as an hour of little peace" (translated from Hebrew).
We thank all our volunteers and supporters for aiding our efforts to inject “hours of peace” by providing personal humanitarian assistance to Palestinian patients. We are hopeful that many instances of such “hours of peace” facilitated by your support will help establish a basis for a long lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Sincerely,
Yuval Roth and The Road To Recovery US volunteer team
