Beni's journey from hardship to hope is remarkable. Orphaned in Kinshasa, she and her siblings faced hunger, relying on her 9-year-old brother who stole to feed them. Their lives changed at Sabuli Children Center, which provided education and hope. Now, Beni is pursuing her dream of becoming a designer. Her story highlights how Lobiko transforms lives: abandoned children find homes, families gain self-sufficiency, and communities thrive. Our goal is to transform 50,000 lives in Congo by 2026.
In a world where over 700 million people live in poverty, the urgency to break this cycle has never been greater. Over 4 million children in Congo are orphaned or abandoned due to poverty. Youth face limited opportunities, with 60% of Africa's jobless population being young people and 70% of Congolese youth self-employed or aiding family work. Additionally, 71% of Congolese live in extreme poverty, lacking housing, food, clean water, healthcare, and education.
We believe lasting, meaningful change is best driven by those closest to the challenges. At Lobiko, we collaborate with leaders and organizations in underserved regions facing significant barriers. Our approach involves identifying, investing in, and partnering with these entities to co-create sustainable solutions. We leverage local insights and expertise, positioning Lobiko as a conduit that connects partners with resources to realize transformative visions.
In collaboration with the Sanguma Foundation (TSF) in Gemena, Democratic Republic of Congo, we're driving sustainable change. Since our partnership began in 2020, we've transformed the lives of over 15,000 families and individuals. We aim to expand our impact by building the capacity of our program partners to be on a sustainable path within three years and investing in new program partners. By focusing on sustainability, we strive to transform 50,000 families and individuals by December 2026.
