1. Overview

The project Training Young Peace Ambassadors Youths in Kumba (#70627) was launched to empower vulnerable and conflict-affected youths in Kumba with practical peacebuilding skills, leadership capacity, and community engagement tools. Given the ongoing socio-political challenges in the South West Region of Cameroon, youth empowerment remains critical in fostering reconciliation, dialogue, and sustainable peace.

This initiative aligns with our mission at Community Echoe Responder (COMERES) to strengthen grassroots resilience through youth leadership development and civic engagement.

2. Project Objectives

The key objectives of the project include:

Training young people in conflict resolution and mediation skills

Promoting non-violent communication and community dialogue

Building leadership and civic responsibility among youths

Encouraging peer-to-peer peace advocacy in schools and communities

3. Activities Implemented

During this reporting period, the following activities were carried out:

a) Youth Selection and Mobilization

35 youths (18 female, 17 male) from different neighborhoods in Kumba were selected.

Sessions covered:

Understanding conflict dynamics

Mediation and negotiation skills

Non-violent communication

Leadership and ethical responsibility

School-based peace clubs

Community dialogue sessions

Peer counseling groups

4. Results and Impact

The project has already begun to show measurable impact:

35 trained Youth Peace Ambassadors equipped with conflict resolution skills

Increased awareness of peaceful conflict management among participants

Formation of 3 youth-led peace groups

Reduction in youth-related verbal confrontations reported in two participating communities

Participants reported increased confidence in handling disputes constructively and serving as positive role models.

One participant shared:

5. Challenges Faced

Security instability occasionally limited movement in certain neighborhoods.

Some youths faced transportation difficulties.

Limited financial resources restricted the number of participants we could accommodate.

Despite these challenges, the training was successfully completed with strong engagement and enthusiasm.

6. Lessons Learned

Youths are highly receptive to structured peace education when given safe learning spaces.

Practical role-play exercises significantly enhance understanding.

Community involvement increases sustainability of peace initiatives.

7. Financial Summary (Brief Overview)
