PROJECT REPORT: Youth Peacebuilders Development Initiative 1. Project Title

Youth Peacebuilders Development Initiative (YPDI)
Empowering Conflict-Affected Youth as Peace Ambassadors in Cameroon

2. Project Summary

This project aims to empower 100 conflict-affected youths (aged 15–25) in Cameroon—especially those displaced by the Anglophone crisis—with peacebuilding, leadership, and trauma-healing skills. Through structured training, mentorship, and youth-led community peace actions, the initiative will equip participants to become Peace Ambassadors who actively promote non-violence, social cohesion, and community resilience.

The project will focus on vulnerable youth, ensuring that at least 50% are girls, including orphans, displaced, and unemployed young people. Through a 2-month customized peacebuilding curriculum and community engagement, youths will become catalysts for peace and positive change.

  • Total Budget: €52,255
  • Amount Raised: €0
  • Balance Remaining: €52,255
  • Donors: 0
  • Monthly Donors: 0
  • Implementation Duration: 5 months

3. Problem Statement / Challenge

The Anglophone crisis in Cameroon has severely affected young people, leaving many displaced, traumatized, unemployed, and vulnerable to violence, drug abuse, crime, or ideological radicalization. With limited support systems and few opportunities for personal development, youth often lack the skills, guidance, and safe platforms to contribute positively to peace and reconciliation.

Key Issues:

  • Exposure to conflict, trauma, and violence
  • Loss of homes, families, and education opportunities
  • Social exclusion and lack of leadership or mentorship
  • Increased risk of recruitment into violent or extremist activities
  • Breakdown of community trust and unity

If not empowered, the affected youths may continue to suffer mental, social, and economic consequences that threaten long-term peacebuilding efforts.

4. Project Objectives

The initiative seeks to:

  1. Mobilize and select 100 conflict-affected youths (15–25 years), with priority to displaced, orphaned, and unemployed youth—ensuring 50% female participation.
  2. Design and implement a 2-month Peacebuilding Training Curriculum tailored to local realities.
  3. Build youth skills in conflict resolution, non-violent communication, leadership, trauma healing, and community dialogue.
  4. Establish a Youth Peace Ambassadors Network to support continuous peace actions and mentorship.
  5. Facilitate youth-led peace initiatives that promote social cohesion and reduce community conflict.

5. Project Approach & Activities Step 1: Community Mobilization & Youth Selection

  • Partner with schools, churches, youth groups, councils, and community leaders
  • Use flyers, radio, and social media to announce application call
  • Select 100 youth, prioritizing vulnerable groups
  • Ensure that at least 50% of participants are girls

Step 2: Develop a Peacebuilding Curriculum (2 Months)

In collaboration with peace experts, psychologists, and NGOs, develop a context-friendly training curriculum focusing on:

Core Modules Conflict Prevention & Resolution Peace and Non-Violent Communication Trauma Healing & Mental Health Support Human Rights and Social Justice Leadership, Mediation & Dialogue Facilitation Gender Inclusion & Community Cohesion Step 3: Training & Mentorship

  • Conduct workshops, role-play sessions, group therapy, and conflict-mediation exercises
  • Pair participants with trained peace mentors and community leaders

Step 4: Youth-Led Peace Actions

Participants implement community peace projects such as:

  • School/community peace clubs
  • Dialogue forums between conflicting groups
  • Peer-to-peer education campaigns

  • At least 10 youth-led peace initiatives implemented in communities
  • Improved emotional resilience and conflict-management skills among participants
  • Strengthened community awareness on non-violence and inclusive dialogue

7. Long-Term Impact

The initiative will cultivate a sustainable and expanding network of youth peacebuilders committed to non-violence, tolerance, and community solidarity. Over time:

  • Youth involvement in violence will decrease
  • Trauma-affected youth regain confidence, hope, and purpose
  • Community trust and unity will be restored
  • Grassroots peace movements will grow and influence national peacebuilding efforts
  • A new generation of peace leaders will emerge, capable of preventing conflict and promoting long-term development

9. Sustainability Plan

To ensure long-lasting results:

  • Alumni will form a Youth Peace Network to support ongoing peace activities.
  • Schools and youth clubs will adopt regular peace education programs.
  • Continuous mentorship and partnerships with NGOs, local authorities, and peace organizations.
  • Visibility through media, storytelling, and community engagement to attract future support.

10. Conclusion

With the right investment, these young people will become long-term ambassadors for unity and conflict prevention—rebuilding communities and fostering lasting peace in Cameroon.
