Project Report | Feb 26, 2015
Naisosion March 2015

By Karen Smith | Project Manager

Naisosion Project Progress March, 2015

Currently there are 13 women who are continuing with their sewing and tailoring businesses.

Outcomes:

  • Eight of the beneficiaries earn about $100 per month, enabling them to provide for their families' food clothing, health care, and education for the children.

  • Five of the beneficiaries earn $40-75, depending upon the location of their businesses. This has enabled them to support their siblings in going to school.

  • One girl has begun further studies in collaboration with Tanzania Vocational and Educational Authority and RUCONET

  • Three of the girls have begun evening courses to further their education by using income from their sewing business to cover their tuition.

From all of this comes the dissemination and sharing of good practices and information with increases the number ofvulnerable girls asking for support and help from Naisosion and RUCONET.

Challenges:

  • Most girls are still working from their verandas. It would be helpful to be able to hire a room for the girls in which to establish their sewing businesses.

  • The program cannot afford, at present, to purchase sewing machines for everyone, so the girls often must hire a machine for a few days to complete their orders.

  • Courses in marketing would be beneficial.
