Project Report | Dec 2, 2014
Naisosion News

By Karen Smith and Harambee Centre Team | Project Manager

We are pleased to announce that your continued generosity and support of the Naisosian Sewing Project in Arusha, Tanzania has meant that we are able fund a secondary program to provide young women with more advanced training to improve their competitive edge in the marketplace. You raised $600 toward our goal of $2,593. Thank you.

The Naisosian sewing program for young women is one of several projects connected with the Rural Community Network (RUCONET) in Tanzania. The success of the initial program, which was focused on dressmaking and women's tailoring, has resulted in many young women now being able to pay for education and health care for themselves and their children.

The funds raised are paying for a skilled teacher and assistant to provide an advanced two-month course on menswear and embroidery. This training will continue to develop young women as independent businesswomen and employees of a larger operation. In addition, they will be taught how to pass on their skills and knowledge so that it will benefit future students.

With gratitude,

The Harambee Centre Team
