3 WOW 6 members join month long agric course

By Obora, Dalmas Odedo | WOW Supervisor

During October 2023 three of our WOW 6 members attended at the month long course at Organics for Orphans in Kitale. This residential course was organised by Thrive for Good and our 3 participants really enjoyed this time. The approach of Thrive involves focusing on four key themes - Organic Gardening, Nutrition, Natural Medicine and Income Generation. The young people were happy to learn several organic techniques which are used so that food can be grown all year around even in small, barren or dry areas. They learnt about everything native which can be used to help rebuild the soil used. After the course the young men were very happy to come back and share their learning with the other WOW 6 members. They showed the members how to build a keyhole garden in which they sowed vegetables which they will use in cooking their own meals.

Along with the WOW 5 graduates from the course earlier this year we are in the process of putting keyhole gardens in some of the compounds where we rent housing for the young people. They will be able to grow vegetables for use by them and their neighbours.

We hope that the upcoming Giving Tuesday campaign will bring us funds to continue allowing the young people practical follow up of what they learned during the course.

Thanks again to all who support us in our work.
