Hi, Newborn Baby Daisy
We have some lovely news from Huikuang. Baby Daisy was born safely on February 25.
Daisy is a Taiwan-Australia crossbreed. Her mother, Roxy, is a third-generation guide dog bred in Taiwan, and her father, Gandalf, comes from our sister organization, Guide Dogs Victoria (GDV), in Australia.
About 25 days after breeding, our team began using ultrasound examinations to follow Roxy’s pregnancy and check Daisy’s development. As her due date approached, we increased the frequency of checkups to once a day, making sure Roxy was doing well and that Daisy was growing safely. Throughout her pregnancy, Roxy stayed in familiar surroundings, allowing her to rest and spend this important time in a place where she felt comfortable.
For guide dogs, a stable temperament is an important part of becoming a reliable working partner. Because they spend their training and working lives in many different public places, we carefully consider family history when selecting dogs for breeding, including a history free from aggression.
Huikuang works with guide dog organizations overseas to maintain healthy and diverse bloodlines. We bring in bloodlines from other countries and share Taiwan-bred puppies with international partners. These exchanges help us continue developing guide dog breeding and raising programs in Taiwan.
After all those weeks of waiting and care, Daisy finally arrived.
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who supported Roxy throughout her pregnancy and helped care for her along the way.
Welcome to the world, Daisy. There is a long journey ahead, but for now, we are simply happy to see you here, healthy and safe.
