Quarterly  report 2023

Introduction:

On behalf of the  Urban Poor Women Development,  We truly thank you for GlobalGiving Fund team and donator which funded to members of poor communities in Phnom Penh Cambodia in the project save women and children during Covid-19. In this quarter we got funding the amount 270.36US$, and we spent 221.58US$ (please see financial report). Through this support, we have used these funds for two activities:

Activity 1: Organizing the Governing Board  Meeting

The governing board meeting was held on February 4, 2023 at Cofee Culturewith 3 board members (2 absent) and staff 7 staff from UPWD (project staff, administrative staff, monitoring and communication staff). The meeting raised three agendas to discuss, such as the reported the implementation of each project in, financial situation from each donors ( GlobalGiving Fund, MISEREOR, Hauirou Commission, other network  and other local authority etc.). The meeting get feedback from governing board and how-to flexible work regarding to political situation. Beside this, the evaluation and New strategic plan also discussed and feed back too.  

Activity 2: Supporting community activities in hygiene andCovid-19.

Meeting in  community villages 5 to promote health care, hygiene and  preventionCovid-19on February 3, 2023. The meeting was  attended by 39 women and children (28 women, 5 children). This awareness has increased the knowledge, especially women in the practice of hygiene, continue to protect Covid-19 and wash hands with soap before and after feeding young children, as well as at home and in the community. The member then spread the word to 97 of his neighbors (67 women). Community-based sanitation (environmental clean-up) activities are planned for the next quarter.

Project report: Save women and Children during Covid-19

The activities have been move forward after Covid-19 pandemic, so activities have review through supported from differences donors

Activity

1.  Public Awareness Raising Campaign on C-19 Prevention Practices :

Given the normalization of Covid-19 spread in the city , this component of the project has been significantly reduced and will be stopped in the incoming period. UPWD move forward to implement activities as such, promoted social media posts on COVID-19 awareness on Urban Poor Women Development (UPWD)’s Facebook page. Within this timeframe, the social media posts reached 3,307,423, post engagement 265,335, liked 98364 and shared 6804, this result involved with community focal point and member of community shared all contents of UPWD Facebook page in order to promote gender, family base violent and child protection in the urban area of Phnom Penh.

1. Strengthen referral system for children and GBV survivors The new proposed intervention aims at increasing quality access to child protection and GBV services (including referral services) in the targeted poor urban communities of Phnom Penh. UPWD will identify organizations based in Phnom Penh which have the interest and potential to reach the project target area, facilitating their access to the communities and creating synergies and networks among them, including UPWD itself. Therefore, the following set of activities are planned:

1. Mapping and identification of experienced organizations active in CP and GBV which can sustainably access and provide services within the project target area. A preliminary mapping has been conducted and a few organizations identified and contacted by UPWD.

2. Identify capacity needs and gaps in the identified organizations that can be address through tailored capacity building for case management (i.e., counselling, psychological first aid) and deliver training to relevant staff (est. 35-45 staff to attend the trainings).

3. Arrange community visits to the target project areas from the partner organizations – once capacity building has been delivered – facilitating community knowledge of the existing services that can be accessed.

4. Conduct regular meetings with the partner organizations, in view of setting mechanisms for case referral among them – including UPWD.

1.  Prevention and response to GBV: awareness raising and trainings with perpetrators and psycho-social support to survivors of GBV (UPWD)

In July, UPWD conducted Psychological First Aid refresher training to 62 community members (47F, 15M) who were previously appointed as gender focal points, counsellors and facilitators in the communities.

UPWD conducted awareness raising to perpetrators and survivors involving 27 participants (21F, 6M).

From July to August, 16 quarterly meetings were conducted with 521 communities members from 27 communities.
