An update on your donation to the Tigray Famine and Crisis Relief Fund

Across the northern region of Ethiopia, escalating political tensions between the Ethiopian National Defense Force and the Tigray People's Liberation Front has displaced more than half a million Tigrayans, many of whom are facing malnutrition and famine conditions. The communication blackout has made it difficult for humanitarian organizations and journalists to respond and report about these atrocities. However, many are braving these conditions and working tirelessly to meet the urgent needs and livelihood of families and individuals throughout the region.

Your donation has powered two grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations on the frontlines of this crisis. Our team wanted to share a reflection from Ruth, a Project Leader from Abraham Oasis about the impact of your gift:

"It was so good to be able to provide for so many for the Ethiopian New Year. Having available funds enabled Abraham Oasis to buy food, oil, meat for over 1000 people who were forcefully displaced and gave hope that all is not lost."

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • IsraAID’s local team is expanding the scope and reach of safe water, establishing child-friendly spaces, and delivering critical psycho-social programming.
  • Abraham's Oasis is providing emergency relief to over 1000 Tigrayans refugees in Shire, with the mission of establishing income generation activities to build the capacity of families and help them “rebuild” their lives.

Thanks to your generous support, people like Ruth can provide critical resources to help their community recover from the ongoing conflicts.

Although our team is now closing this fund, we will continue to support our partners as effectively as possible in the face of ongoing conflicts. You can stay connected with our work through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and our Learn Library, where we regularly share stories about the incredible impact of the powerful GlobalGiving community. About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
