Our production team has just returned from Amman, Jordan, where they were recording the heart-wrenching stories of refugees from the brutal civil war in Syria. We were lucky to find a woman who has been working closely with refugees for the past year. She introduced us to six individuals and families, each who deserves a platform to tell their story.
Here is an excerpt from our interview with Aisha, a mother and grandmother whose eldest son was detained by the Syrian army. He disappeared a year and a half ago into a prison which was recently revealed to have tortured, starved, and executed 11,000 detainees.
"What do you think of when you wake up in the morning?"
"Me? I don’t even sleep, I don’t sleep. I stay awake all night and when I sleep I wake up very, very tired and all I think of is going back, but I have a sick husband and there aren’t hospitals there. I’m forced to stay here, though I actually can’t stand still here. When I wake up in the morning, I want to explode. That’s my situation in the morning."
Please help us provide a platform for her voice, and the millions of other Syrians who are living in exile.
