“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
This is according to Malcolm X and Agusan del Norte Teachers, Retirees, Employees, and Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ANTRECCO) believes on this. This is the very essence why ANTRECCO joined the group of cooperatives that implement Aflatoun Program. Aflatoun Program is a Child Social and Financial Education.
This program contributes to 4 out of the 17 United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals which are, NO POVERTY, QUALITY EDUCATION, DECENT WORK and ECONOMIC GROWTH, and REDUCED INEQUALITIES. Because of the reasons cited above, ANTRECCO became interested in implementing it.
From that interest, it became the passion of not only of its General Manager, but also the other Branch Managers, officers, and staff. The implementation of Aflatoun Program started last 2014, with five (5) pilot schools namely: Santiago CES, Agay NHS, Carmen CES, Carmen NHS and Buenavista NHS. It expanded the program by adding twelve (12) additional schools last 2018 and these are the following. (1) Santiago NHS, (2) Tubay NHS, (3) Doña Rosario NHS, (4) Doña Rosario CES, (5) Tubay CES, (6) Luis B. Azura Mem. ES, (7) RTR CES, (8) Cogon CES, (9) Nasipit CES, (10) Mateo B. Abao CES, (11) Tagcatong CES and (12) Cahayagan ES.
ANTRECCO has three (3) branches that cater Aflatoun Program. Carmen Branch caters 6 schools. Cabadbaran Branch caters 9 schools and Libertad Branch caters 2 schools. Altogether, ANTRECCO has trained 101 teachers and 8 school heads for the Aflatoun Program. It has total number of 2,076 student depositors with a total amount saved of Php 528,560.87 as of May 31, 2019.
Last January 2019, ANTRECCO sent three (3) participants to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Capacity-Building Training Program for Aflatoun Coordinators and Advocates. These 3 participants are now certified National Trainer on Aflatoun Program.
During March 2019 Recognition Day, ANTRECCO also awarded Top Savers of the Year to all partner schools. The Top Saver for all the Aflateens and Aflatouns is Marie Antoinette, a Grade 9 - Section Fleming student of Carmen National High School. Marie Antoinette says that with Aflatoun Program she learned to save from her allowances. Aflatoun Program is really a blessing on her life and she will continue to save money for Aflatoun and it will become her habit forever in her life. She intends to save as a preparation for her study in college. She believes that her savings will really help her mother especially in her schooling in the future.
Last Brigada Eskwela 2019, ANTRECCO supported the preparation of all Aflatoun schools by donating painting materials and even attended the kick off program of Brigada Eskwela in selected partner schools.
As for their future fruitful plans, ANTRECCO is currently coordinating with Department of Education in the Division of Agusan del Norte’s Schools Division Superintendent to proceed with its training for the sixteen (16) additional partner schools in the Municipality of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte.
It is the dream of ANTRECCO to institutionalize the implementation of Aflatoun program. This means that it will implement the program to all its branches across the region. And with the support coming from NATCCO, DepEd, Teachers, parents, and the learners, it will all come into fruition.
