David's cooties

Ok, that was kind of a fib. David does not have cooties. What he DOES have is a type of staff infection which is very common and easily transferable from child to child in the village. Basically one child has it, scratches the wounds, and plays with his friends transfering the infection on to them. Fortunately it is also easily treated with a strong course of antibiotics.

In the NGO industry, they are known as bacterial malnutritional soars as they are MOST common on children who are malnurished and/or immuno-compromised. David is neither. And I have had them multiple times before and I am healthy as a horse and if you've seen my photo you'll know that I am clearly not starving.

Fortunately we caught David's before he transfered them to the other children, and we sent him and his eldest brother Raymond to the Mukono Hospital for treatment. He'll be fine in a jiffy.

Belated introductions

Promise and Patricia- Cathy's daughters

This is Cathy. She is the new caregiver for Fred's Children. She is the biological sister to Fred's late wife Peace, and she is a single mother of two girls Promise age 15, and Patricia age 6.

She was nominated to be the children's caregiver at a meeting between Peace's family, and Fred's clan. She is the children's primary care giver and while she does not get paid to take care of them, she does have all of her living expences covered, as well as medical care for both her and her children, and her children's school fees. She cares for the home and property growing food and managing every day life with a herd of children. We recently set her up with a chicken project where she can produce and sell yellow yolk eggs as an income generating activity for herself.

Fred and Peace's children are Raymond age 18, Michael age 14, David age 10, Flavia age 6, and Angela age 5. Raymond has a school sponsor which is fantastic. We cater for his non-school expences, as well as everything for the rest of the children.

After his mother's death, Michael's behavior has been consistently spiraling downward. There have been multiple interventions with him from his family, clan, Local Council, and even the Police and Army. But they have all had no impact. He leaves home for months at a time and upon returning is always welcomed back. We honestly have no idea what is going to happen with him, but we hope that with our love and suppport we can get his life back on track.

David is extremely smart and is consistently at the top of his class. Flavia and Angela and both busy being little girls. They like dresses and everything pink. Angela has fallen behind a bit in school due to absences resulting from some health issues, but she seems to be feeling much better and is perky, happy, and back to school with the other children.

Taking responsibility for children is a commitment and no easy task, but together, we are ensuring that they are well cared for and have bright futures. Your support means the world, so thank you for your continued contributions.
