What would make us and our families leave our home, work, and travel to an unknown country at high cost and risk? War, violence, discrimination, poverty are pushing millions to move into the unknown. The recent war in Ukraine has shown us how quickly things can deteriorate for millions of people. We are helping refugees and asylum seekers around us irrespective of their religion, gender and nationality with immediate solutions to food insecurity, accommodation and other essential needs.
Crete and Greece are at the entrance to the route to Europe that brings refugees from the Balkans, Middle East and African countries towards hope and safety. Greece is a small country with limited resources, and the issues of people's displacement are many and very complex. It is often the work of small, local grassroots movements and non-profit associations such as Crete For Life that can alleviate and impact many lives.
This project will address the need of families and individuals by providing food, medicine, transport, assistance with living accommodation and cover other urgent needs that might arise. With your support, we can impact the lives of around 100 people. We focus on those most vulnerable who are not supported by other organisations, including single mothers, widows and those at risk.
Since 2015 Crete For Life has been operating with refugees and asylum seekers. We have seen many individuals and families running from persecution and violence and hoping to find a safe shelter. Unfortunately, their journey into Europe is ridden with hardship, long waits and frustration. This project aims to ease the immediate essential needs on their journey to independence and their rightful constructive, safe existence.
