No Hunger Initiatives moved to support families displaced, who lost loved ones and faced hardships following the devastating attack that affected Bokkos, Barkin Ladi and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The intervention was designed to provide not only emergency assistance but also to assist affected households in starting the road to stability and self-reliance.
Progress Made
Since the start of the intervention there has been much progress in working with vulnerable families with practical support. Emergency relief materials were provided to 250 households to alleviate some of the immediate hardships of the crisis. Such assistance provided families some relief in their struggle to cope with daily expenses.
Other than emergency assistance, the project moved to a recovery stage by introducing a sustainable livelihood approach through vertical backyard farming. Through this component, beneficiaries had the opportunity to learn a food production method that can be used in small spaces, even in displacement settings. Training and distribution of farming materials enabled families to begin small-scale cultivation for household use and possible income generation.
Main results
The intervention has brought relief and empowerment. Families received items that met immediate survival needs, and the farming initiative provided a way to achieve long-term food security. The participants are now more confident and some of the beneficiaries have begun to use the skills shared during the training sessions.
The project also raised community awareness on collective recovery and resilience. Engagement with beneficiaries allowed the organization to better understand the challenges families are currently facing and what support would be most useful moving forward.
Significant Impact
One of the most obvious signs of progress was how the beneficiaries began to shift from dependence to active involvement in rebuilding their lives. Mama Salamatu’s story is one of many that demonstrate how, with the right kind of support, people can turn adversity into opportunity and become a beacon of hope in their communities.
Closing
In Plateau State, the intervention has demonstrated that timely humanitarian response combined with practical livelihood support can add enduring value to the lives of displaced families. No Hunger Initiatives is dedicated to helping impacted communities recover with dignity, regain hope and build a more secure future.
