Introduction

On December 25, 2023, the communities of Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Mangu Local Government Areas (LGA) in Plateau State, Nigeria, faced a devastating attack that left many individuals injured, families displaced, and lives lost. In response to the urgent humanitarian needs, No Hunger Initiatives aka No Hunger Food Bank mobilized swiftly to support 250 affected families.

  • Alleviate suffering and aid families in rebuilding their lives.
  • Empower individuals through vertical backyard farming.

    • Delivered essential supplies including food, water, clothing, and hygiene kits to 250 displaced families.
  2. Introduction of Vertical Backyard Farming

    • Implemented vertical backyard farming initiatives to promote sustainable agriculture among displaced families.
    • Distributed agricultural tools including watering cans, vertical planters, seeds, soil, and fertilizers to facilitate farming efforts.
    • Conducted workshops on vertical farming techniques to educate families on maximizing space and yield.
  3. Community Engagement and Awareness

    • Organized community meetings to discuss recovery strategies and gather feedback from families about their needs.
    • Promoted awareness on available resources and support systems within the community.
  4. Story of Resilience: Mama Salamatu

    • Highlighted the inspiring story of Mama Salamatu, who transformed her adversity into opportunity.

Future Plans

  • Continued Support: Maintain ongoing assistance for the displaced families, including follow-up on business sustainability and health support.
  • Expansion of Livelihood Programs: Introduce additional vocational training programs tailored to the community’s needs.
  • Partnership Development: Seek partnerships with local businesses and NGOs to enhance resources and support for affected families.
