Listen Up Leadership Camp
The season of camps have arrived and it is time for our young leaders, both boys and girls to look forward to the annual training camps, where they get to meet leaders like themselves, from all over Thailand. Although the demise of the beloved Thai King had seen many events cancelled, this particular camp was postponed instead.
"The theme 'Listen Up' was truly appropriate for our young leaders, as they have a tendency to be talking more than listening, as is the case for most pre-teens and teens, when they get together, " commented Tik, a long-time youth worker.
There were 3 separate camps running concurrently, which catered for the different age-groups, but there were also combined activities, so that there would be mingling among all.
Team-building actitivies and leadership skills were taught and coached, as the campers learnt the theory and were put into practical use almost immediately, either among their peers, or used to instruct those younger than they.
Much laughter and chatter were heard throughout the camp, but at the same time, these young leaders were made aware that it was of utmost importance that to excel in their leadership, they had to listen to their team members.
"I loved the Paradise Game - there was so much noise, but I had to listen to the right ones so that I could make the right decisions!", Fon responded after the activity.
Pinyo, however, liked the hike best. He had volunteered to help carry the huge trash bag left over by the campers, down a 3km walk down the hill, however, it became a little too heavy after a while and the camp leaders decided to help him transport that heavy trash via vehicle instead. It was good to see young people making small sacrifices for others, and the enviornment.
As our Foundation continues to nurture our young people, helping them become leaders in their homes and communities , it is hoped that they will grow to listen to the needs and cries of those they lead and serve, so that they will create a better world for the future of Thailand.
May we take this opportunity to thank all our partners and donors who have honored our work through your hard-earned money, via your generous donations. We welcome any feedback and comments that will enhance our outreach.
Best regards
Vena
