The economic crisis in Venezuela has forced 2 million people to migrate to Colombia - half are women. Many have valuable skills but opportunities are scarce for migrant women and they often need to take on informal, underpaid & dangerous jobs to survive and feed their children. If given a chance, they could positively impact their host communities. Our social entrepreneurship program will help 50 women use THEIR SKILLS & PASSIONS to SOLVE SOCIAL PROBLEMS, while earning a living & creating jobs!
Venezuelan migrant women work more hours and earn less money than migrant men and Colombian women. 91.1% work in informal jobs despite having a higher level of education than both of the previously mentioned groups. They earn an average of 200 dollars, almost 30% less than the minimum wage. In addition, their economic and migratory situation exposes them to illegal networks of prostitution, human trafficking, and other criminal activities.
Our training will help them rebuild their lives. Each woman will convert their individual abilities & aspirations into easily implementable business models, which also contributes to social & environmental change. We will select highly motivated women, & guide them step-by-step, while teaching them the soft skills they will need to succeed. Our program includes individual mentoring sessions during & after the training, to ensure that each woman feels supported & is able to develop their project.
Since creating this program, over 80% of the entrepreneurs that we have trained have been able to start selling products and services, which generate positive social and/or environmental impact within their communities. With this project, 50 vulnerable women will be able to ensure an income for their families, provide goods & services that are missing in their communities, create jobs, protect the environment and serve as role models for others. Over 2000 people will benefit from this project!
