The extent at which Ebola virus is spread in Uganda is very high and warring every one and health workers have started avoiding patients. This project contributes to the reduction of Ebola virus spread by increasing awareness on prevention strategies through community mobilization and sensitization to enable illiterate community members understand well and utilize Ebola standard operating procedures (SOPs). And also provide personal protective gears (PPEs) to health workers
Currently over 48 confirmed cases of Ebola have been reported, including 17 deaths, of which four were healthcare workers Despite the Government effort in preventing the spread, little has been done. Dissemination of prevention information is on radios, television and posters in English yet majority of local communities members do not understand English. If this situation continues, the country might be locked down causing all works stagnant and escalating death and poverty.
The project will contribute increased dissemination of Ebola prevention information among vulnerable community members in eastern Uganda through translation of the exiting Information, communication and education materials in local language, community mobilization and sensitization on Ebola prevention strategies, training of community health workers on Ebola prevention strategies and hold meetings to create avenues for promotions of prevention information including ascertain reduction status.
The project is significant that it will : 1. Reduce mortality and morbidity, 2. Enable production and productivity by vulnerable communities, 3. Facilitate health workers execute their duties without fear, 4. Allow community members move freely in the community while transacting their businesses
