This project addresses the lack of access to education for Ghanaian youth. As a result of costly tuition and extreme poverty, children are forced to help provide for their families instead of study. Our primary goal is to support young scholars affected by these socio-economic burdens. By funding and creating scholarships, mentorships, tutoring and capacity building opportunities, we aim to empower students to become future leaders in their community in the region of Accra, Ghana.
About 50% of Ghanaian students are unable to continue education into high school simply because they cannot afford the fees of school attendance. Due to the high levels of poverty in the Accra region of Ghana, many children cannot pay for any schooling and must work instead. Our students have all experienced breaks in their education because they and their families lack the financial stability to pay for fees, tuition, materials, and books.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to obtain an education. This project sponsors students' education and provides them with the tools to be successful beyond the classroom. Through a supportive network, sponsorship, mentorship, tutoring and leadership training, students are prepared to excel in school and advance further in their education and professional careers.
This project will contribute to the goal of education equity by providing opportunities for equal access to education. We are preparing students to rise out of poverty because with an enhanced education, they are presented with more job opportunities and can ultimately access a higher level of wealth. We hope to set our students up to take on leadership positions in their own communities and eventually run the Ghana Educational Collaborative program on their own!
