3.2 million households are living without power in Malawi. Social entrepreneurs in the energy sector are working to change that. But first, they need to gain essential technical and business skills to launch successful social enterprises that would change their communities. Your support will go towards specialized entrepreneurship training designed to help individuals launch social enterprises that provide and promote the use of safe and renewable energy sources.
Only 12% of Malawians are connected to the grid, impacting economic and social development. Many rely on unhealthy and polluting energy sources to cook, charge their phones, and light their homes, resulting in widespread environmental degradation. Aspiring social entrepreneurs know the way forward is through clean, sustainable energy. Although they have the ambition to launch businesses addressing energy poverty, they need support to provide their communities with access to renewable energy.
Flame Tree Initiative will provide the bridge for these aspiring social entrepreneurs to transform their visions into thriving social enterprises that solve energy poverty. Your gift will support specialized entrepreneurship training for 15 individuals. During the training, they will receive a dual-concentration on business acumen and social impact measurement to help them gain the technical knowledge required to launch and scale energy-focused social enterprises.
When social entrepreneurs provide sustainable energy solutions, communities thrive. Access to energy can improve living conditions, health, education, economic well-being, and the environment. Moreover, it creates jobs. We envision a future in which students learn comfortably in well-lit classrooms and go home to do homework in the evening, a future where businesses operate efficiently and stay open longer, and a future in which families share a meal cooked using safe and clean energy.
