Providing Clean Water to Empower Women and Girls

Women and children frequently are responsible for fetching water. In Ortese, this entails lengthy, perilous excursions to contaminated streams, which detract from academic pursuits and jeopardize safety. The World Bank emphasizes that women and girls in rural Nigeria spend more than three hours each day collecting water.
This initiative empowers women to prioritize their families and livelihoods, reduces risk, and increases school attendance for girls by providing clean water in close proximity to their homes. It is a stride toward a brighter, secure future and gender equality.

Education Begins with Clean Water

Sick children are unable to attend school, which prevents them from getting the education they need to build brighter futures. In Ortese, frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases result in high rates of absenteeism among students, leading to poor academic performance and missed learning opportunities. According to UNESCO, access to safe and clean drinking water is directly linked to increased school attendance and improved educational outcomes. When children don't have to worry about falling sick from contaminated water, they can focus on their studies, participate more actively in class, and achieve better grades.
Our organization is committed to tackling this issue at its root by providing portable sources of safe drinking water, implementing effective water filtration services, and delivering comprehensive hygiene training for the entire community. These initiatives ensure that everyone benefits from cleaner, safer water, significantly reducing the risk of illness. When children are healthy and thriving, they are able to consistently attend school, learn, and develop into tomorrow’s leaders.

Breaking the Cycle of Sickness: Safe Water for All

In Ortese Guma Local Government Area of Benue State North Centreal Nigeria, contaminated water is a daily threat to the health of the children living in that community. The result: endless cycles of sickness, missed school, and family hardship. Cholera outbreaks in Benue State have surged since 2021, with children the most affected (NCDC). These are preventable with clean and safe water.
This project will install and maintain safe water systems, reducing disease and freeing children to pursue education and play. Families are empowered with knowledge and resources to keep their water safe.
Every donor helps break the cycle—turning risk into resilience for Ortese’s children.
