Through this period we have been able to visit Pygmies in various places such as in North Kivu Province, South Kivu Province and in Tanganyika Province.
We realized that Pygmies are in some parts aggressive against other Bantu Communities because they feel they have been left behind, an this is the basis of war in Tanganyika Province and in Ituri. We also observed that the main cause is related to destitution and lack of survuving opportunities. Generally they lived in the forests but in many parts these forests have been destroyed by other communities. In Tanganyika Province for example Pygmies do start violence against other communities when they are hungry.
In order to respond to their problems humanitarian organizations have sent them into Internally Displaced Camps where they survive of humanitarian relief aid, but again in some cases this aid is not available all the time which makes them more vulnerable. When they find that aid is no longer available they leave their Camps and go back to their villages where they start again hostilities. In this situation it may be easier to engage them in various economic activities and life-skills once they are in camps and even when they go back to their villages so that they can become productive.
For example it may be the right time to engage them in agriculture, and in comercial activities in their villages and encourage them to set up bussiness in order to solve community problems rather than promoting other communities to exercise bussiness in the Pygmies Communities.
The only challenge we are still having currently is the lack of funds which can be put to use to solve the problem and for the last few months we are not getting much fundig for all our projects.
