Christmas starts early on the Children's ward and thanks to your support our Play Specialists have been able to organise lots of activities to get our patients in the Christmas spirit.
The children have been busy making chocolate cornflake cakes for their Christmas party and decorating pottery to give as presents. These sessions are a great way to encourage the children to leave their rooms and have fun whilst interacting with other children.
The Children's ward will stay open this Christmas as some of our children are sadly too unwell to go home. Thanks to your generosity we have been able to purchase presents for each of them and their siblings to help make their stay a little more comfortable and special. The team have been busy gift wrapping Lego sets, jigsaw puzzles and board games as well as arts and crafts and colouring books. We also try to make sure every child who visits the Out Patients gets a present too and so we organise a Christmas party with lots of treats and goodies and Santa comes to visit. It is thanks to your generosity that we are able to do this.
Patients are the heart of everything we do and we are committed to ensuring that they receive the best treatment and facilities possible. It really is due to the support of people such as yourself that we have a world-class cancer centre for children and young people at The Royal Marsden.
May we take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We have had a very busy couple of months in The Oak Centre for Children and Young People getting ready for our Patron's, her Majesty the Queen's 90th Birthday.
Thanks to your generosity we were able to purchase materials for the children to make birthday cards which were sent in time for her Majesty's big day and much to our delight she sent a lovely letter back. Our Play Specialists organised a party to celebrate in June and all the children dressed up in red, white and blue and enjoyed lots of party food. They especially enjoyed making their own candy floss.
We have also purchased an ipad mini to be used by one of our young patients in an Isolation Room. Sometimes the treatment we have to give our patients means they are not able to leave their rooms and interact with the others and instead they have to stay within a specially designed room. So it is so important for us to be able to provide them with something that will help keep them entertained and distract them for the time they are isolated.
Words cannot express how grateful we are to you for your amazing kindness. We are truly indebted to all our supporters as donations enable us to continue to provide up-to-date facilities, together with state-of-the-art technology in a child friendly environment which will benefit our young patients and allow their normal lives to continue as much as possible.

Visit to the Household Cavalry
Thanks to your support we have had a busy couple of months in our Children's Unit.
Thanks to your generosity we were able to purchase over 250 Easter eggs for the Children's Ward and Day Unit ready for the long Easter weekend. Every child that had to stay in over the weekend was given an Easter egg as well as their siblings who visit. At this time of year it is important that our young patients are made to feel comfortable and special. Being able to give them the eggs enables us to make their Easter that little bit easier.
We have also been able to send some of the children on some exciting day trips, including a trip to Hyde Park Barracks to visit The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment where our young patients had great fun meeting all the horses and trying on the Guard's tunics. Others have been on a trip to the West End to see the award winning musical Matilda.
Words cannot express how grateful we are to you for your amazing kindness. We are truly indebted to all our supporters as donations enable our young patients to live a normal life as possible.
