Rural dwellers in Central Region of Ghana suffer from adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons -first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness; and second poverty in area of standard of living, poor road network to the health facilities and rural settlement. The situation calls for timely care and diagnosis which can reduce the incidence of morbidity and mortality especially among children and pregnant women.
Ghana has made rapid strides in the health sector since independence. However, the access to healthcare still remains a challenge. While the health of rural Ghana continue to be poor, the access to health services of rural dwellers on the other has also surfaced to be equally deplorable. in spite of economic progress shocking number of women die due complications with pregnancy and childbirth and significant number of children die before their 5th birthday.
This mobile-clinic project provides access to healthcare for the slum communities in Central Region of Ghana, where unsanitary conditions and impoverishment lead to high occurrences of disease and premature death. Our project provides essential health screening, treatment and education to inhabitants of these communities while tackling underlying causes of disease such as poor sanitation, nutrition, poverty and lack of access to education.
Inhabitants especially mothers will be healthier and will live to deliver stronger babies, families will be protected from malaria; the community will be educated and energize to recognize the importance of health and ways to be healthier; the medical access will be easier and the world will be a happier place.
