CARE Society is a non-profit organization created in 2006 by Sivalingam and his partner Kumari to involve community members in developing more sustainable and healthy life practices through the creation of an organic seed bank providing high-quality seeds and the training of farmers through the organization of traditional farming workshops.
Thanks to this initiative, they have been able to reduce unorganized farming methods in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Last year, CARE Society helped 72 farmers switch to organic farming and started 9 farmer clubs in various villages. Those clubs have partnerships with organizations in the financial sector.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of platform dedicated to that kind of farming the organization faces many difficulties when it comes to marketing those products. Moreover, because of the pressure of the general market, farmers are forced to sell their products at low prices, do not get any profits and lose interests in their work.
To solve those problems, CARE Society wants to develop a platform called “The Organic Farmer Producer Company” to market organic products and tries to foster the easy access to seeds. This will help enhance farmers’ interests in agriculture and more particularly in organic farming.
