Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our donors, Cruz Rosa continues to strengthen its mission of providing support, comprehensive care, and a safe environment for women facing a cancer diagnosis.
From April through July, we provided support to 49 women, benefiting a total of 64 individuals, including patients and their caregivers. We are also pleased to share that, so far in 2026, the shelter has assisted 101 patients, enabling many women to continue their medical treatments even while being far from home.
Each of these figures represents a story of strength, hope, and resilience. Behind every patient we serve, there is a family that finds in Cruz Rosa a place of comfort, support, and companionship during one of the most difficult times of their lives.
With the support of our volunteers, we organized a variety of activities aimed at promoting emotional well-being and overall health among our beneficiaries. These activities included visits to the Chipinque Ecological Park and the La Milarca Museum, as well as yoga sessions, arts and crafts workshops, singing activities, bingo games, and book clubs, creating opportunities for social interaction, recreation, and learning.
Despite the progress we have achieved, we continue working to expand the impact of our efforts by strengthening our food assistance program for patients and family members receiving care in hospitals while facing economic and emotional hardship.
Success Story: Marisa Barajas
Marisa's story reflects the profound impact that solidarity can have on the lives of those who face cancer far from home.
Originally from Monclova, Coahuila, Marisa was admitted to Cruz Rosa on June 30, 2026, accompanied by her sister, Laura. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2025 and subsequently began a long course of treatment that included breast-conserving surgery, eight cycles of chemotherapy, and fifteen radiation therapy sessions.
From the moment she arrived, Marisa demonstrated a positive attitude and remarkable strength. Although she experienced some side effects from radiation therapy, including fatigue and discomfort while eating, she maintained a stable condition throughout the process. She also actively participated in the shelter's volunteer activities and educational sessions.
After completing her treatment, Marisa returned home deeply grateful for the support and care she received during her stay. Her experience reflects the purpose that drives every aspect of our work: to provide patients with a safe, dignified, and hopeful environment where they can focus on their recovery.
Thank you for continuing to stand alongside Cruz Rosa and for making it possible for more women and their families to find hope, support, and well-being when they need it most. Your generosity transforms lives and allows us to continue building a place where no one has to face cancer alone.
