Since November 2024, Aldeias Infantis SOS has been supporting 240 families in Porto Alegre affected by the severe climate disaster that struck the city. This initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to the comprehensive protection of children, adolescents, and their communities, offering continuous support to ensure humanitarian and emotional care during this period of recovery.
In the face of extreme vulnerability, the emergency response goes beyond immediate relief. Many families are still dealing with homelessness, the psychological trauma caused by the disaster, and a city that urgently requires infrastructure investment to prevent future floods. In addition, the state's economy has been deeply impacted, affecting income generation and access to basic rights.
In this context, food security has become a top priority. The distribution of food baskets has been essential in ensuring that families have access to nutritious food and basic living conditions while they work to rebuild their lives.
Aldeias Infantis SOS team — including social workers, psychologists, educators, and family and community development assistants — conduct regular home visits, providing emotional support, social guidance, and systematic follow-up. The goal is clear: to empower families to overcome the impacts of the tragedy with dignity, while ensuring the protection of their children’s and adolescents’ rights.
"The Aldeias Infantis SOS team means everything to me — a true blessing. They helped me with food, resources, and access to benefits. And most importantly, with positive and encouraging words." J.M.
