2019 = 5,250 people

Thanks to your generosity, Raphael House served more than 5,250 community members in 2019! Your contributions had an impact on domestic violence survivors at every step of their journey to stability—from first finding a safe haven at our Emergency Shelter, to securing permanent housing, to becoming self-sufficient in the long-term with support from our ongoing services.

We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of survivors like Idalia, who called our hotline late one evening. Idalia was afraid and had nowhere else to turn. Our advocates helped her make a safety plan for leaving her abuser, and shortly afterward, Idalia moved into our shelter with her young daughter.

A few months later, after moving into a beautiful apartment, Idalia got a job as a medical assistant! She and her daughter are still able to access services at Raphael House for as long as they need. We see them regularly for support groups, finance classes, and field trips.

"I am so grateful to Raphael House for literally saving my life and my daughter's life. I never knew we could get away until I called. Because of Raphael House, I know there ARE support systems to help. I hope we can always stay connected and engaged!"

Beyond providing shelter and ongoing support to families like Idalia's, we offer innovative community-based programs that meet survivors where they are. Our Domestic Violence Recovery Mentors (the first of their kind in Oregon) support survivors in the community who are struggling with addiction, while our Health Care Advocate provides safety planning and confidential services to survivors in the privacy of their doctor’s office. We also work tirelessly to prevent future violence in the hopes that someday no one will be hurt by someone they love. Our Prevention Education team teaches youth and adults across Portland about consent, setting healthy boundaries, and warning signs of abuse.
