Even though the weather here in Portland is still a bit chilly and swinging wildly from rain to hail to brilliant sunshine, spring has most definitely arrived at the Raphael House emergency shelter. Thanks to a grant from a local service group, we're in the middle of a huge garden project here at the shelter: we're planting fruit trees, building beehives and raised garden beds, and sprouting seeds in our windowsills. By mid-summer, our garden should be producing a wealth of fresh fruit and vegetables for the families who live in our shelter. In addition to discovering the magic of truly fresh, organic produce, the families who live here will also be learning valuable gardening skills and experiencing some garden therapy - we can't wait to see the transformations this new addition to our shelter space is going to bring about.
Thank you for your recent support of the Raphael House emergency shelter program, and Happy Spring!
