While we promote self-care for our participants throughout the year, the transition from winter into spring is the perfect time to focus on indoor wellness activities for our participants at the shelter.
In January, Wellness Night in our Advocacy Center featured generous providers giving haircuts and makeovers, a massage therapist offering 15-minute appointments for moms, a relaxation yoga session, nail painting, and art activities for both kiddos and adults. January’s robust programming calendar also included Rent Well classes, group and one-on-one counseling sessions, a youth writing group, and more.
An incredible smorgasbord of art supplies were donated by The Dreaming Zebra Foundation, local Blick Art Materials stores, and a lot of very generous donors! We were blown away by the array of items, which included everything from oil pastels to acrylic paint, canvases to paint brushes, and so much more. The timing for this contribution couldn't be better. We've just added three new art support groups to our weekly Advocacy Center calendar and these supplies are the backbone for this therapeutic programming!
Our friends from the Junior League of Portland hosted a Crock Pot Lunch for 15 of our families. Participants enjoyed delicious, healthy, homemade dishes together and each mom went home with their very own crock pot and recipe booklet donated by the Junior League.
In February, we hosted a special self-care themed Valentine's Day event, which included cookie decorating, hair and massage services, and a relaxation yoga glass.
We are so grateful to our volunteers, community partners, and donors like you. Your gifts help provide our families with healing, hope, and inspiration. For the most up to date information on activities and ways to get involved, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
