In the rural community of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, Give Chances has been working to break the cycle of poverty through access to quality education. Through our Joyful Learning After School Program, we are providing English and STEM education to students who have long been underserved by traditional education systems. This initiative is not only filling critical learning gaps, it’s also planting seeds of opportunity, self-confidence, and growth among the children of Yirgacheffe.
The Joyful Learning program in Ethiopia was launched in 2023, and since then has grown significantly. Currently, we rely on a learning model that pairs live virtual lessons from native English-speaking instructors with in-person classroom support from local educators. Our students in Yirgacheffe have been learning foundational English skills, and have recently mastered phonics. Students have also been strengthening core STEM concepts like mathematical problem solving. This hybrid structure has proven to be especially effective in regions where educational infrastructure and access to quality instructors are limited, thus our students have shown much improvement over the last few months with our tailored hybrid curriculum.
We are deeply grateful to our community partners and supporters whose generosity makes this program possible. Your support is transforming lives–equipping young learners with the language and technical skills they need to thrive in a global economy. Thank you for making this work a reality. Together, we are giving chances and creating lasting change for the children of Yirgacheffe. We look forward to sharing more updates on our successes in Ethiopia!
