Help a Child get Digital Skill in Ede Remote Area is a project that aims to bridge the digital divide in rural communities by providing free computer training to children aged 10 to 16 years old. The initiative is centered on empowering young minds with digital literacy skills, thereby expanding their access to information and fostering a keen interest in technology.
Project Updates
The project since last report has successfully graduated three basic computer batches of 10 participants each, two Artificial Intelligence batches of 5 participants each, two Canva design batches of 10 participants each, and one Photoscape batch of 10 participants making it total of 70 participants trained in different computer skills. To date, 70 students have completed the program, with new enrollments continuing during the holiday period.
Project Center
The project is situated Ede remote area. A significant challenge hindering the project's full potential is the absence of a stable power supply. The reliance on generators to power the training center has incurred substantial costs and limited operational hours.
Project Achievements
The project has significantly improved students' digital literacy, expanded their access to information, and ignited their curiosity in technology. The positive impact is evident in students' growing confidence, as highlighted by testimonials from both children and parents.
Project Challenges
The primary challenge faced by the project is the inconsistent power supply. This issue has necessitated a reduction in training hours and significantly increased operational costs.
Future Plans and Partnerships
To address the power challenge, the project seeks to establish partnerships with community members, organizations, and donors to secure sustainable funding for a reliable power source. Additionally, there is a strong desire to expand the program to other communities.
Conclusion
This project has made significant strides in its mission to empower young people with digital skills. Despite the challenges posed by power supply, the project has achieved remarkable results. With continued support and strategic partnerships, the project envisions graduating a larger cohort of digitally proficient students by March 2025, inspiring them to leverage their newfound skills for future success.
