In Uganda 29% children below 5 are stunted & 53% anaemic with Tooro region being highest at 40% (UDHS, 2022). Your support helps us create public awareness about stunting (08) districts and promote stunting reduction interventions. Working with community health workers, policy ,nutritionists , cultural leaders and mothers, conducting community dialogues, radio talk shows , debates, male involvement and drama episodes educating people about dietary foods helps us reduce stunting at household
Stunting contributes to poor health, aggravates disease, and reduces productivity while compounding poverty and its after-effects. It increases susceptibility of children to infections and disease that decreases absorption of nutrients into the child's body and affect brain development, lowers child's capacity for learning and processing of new information leading to poor performance at school, increases household expenditure on health care, leads to intergenerational cycle of poor health
The project ensures that the public, communities, local leaders ,health workers and mothers are well mobilized and sensitized about stunting , factors contributing to it and their engagement in reducing it. We empower them with information on balanced diet, strengthens community and family involvement in vegetable growing and ensure pregnant women and children under five have improved health. Optimal nutrition, health seeking behavior, Initiating breastfeeding, Micronutrient supplementation
Involvement of different leaders, communities, increased awareness about the problem using the media, dialogues, with early detection and treatment of stunting, children are given the opportunity to grow to their full potential. Educating the moms and leaders on diet, using vegetable demos and treatment of stunting positively impacts children performance and economic growth in adulthood.
