1. Introduction

This report provides an update on the progress of the Maternal HealthCare & Family Planning in Nigeria project (ID: 54322). Our mission is to improve maternal and child health by promoting safe motherhood, maternal nutrition, family planning education, and access to quality reproductive health information for women and families across Nigeria.

Although we did not receive external financial support during this reporting period, we remain committed to advancing this mission through our internal social enterprise, volunteer efforts, research, innovation, and ongoing community outreach.

2. Appreciation to GlobalGiving

We sincerely appreciate GlobalGiving for providing a trusted platform that enables grassroots organizations to connect with compassionate supporters around the world.

Although we have not yet received external donations for this project, we are grateful for the opportunity to share our vision globally. We remain hopeful that future partnerships and donor support will enable us to expand maternal healthcare services and educational programmes for women and families.

3. Funding Status

During this reporting period, the project did not receive any external financial donations through GlobalGiving.

Despite this, we continued implementing the project through the support of our internal social enterprise, which provides in-kind resources, volunteer time, technical expertise, and operational support. We also continued carrying out community outreach activities to educate women and families on maternal health, maternal nutrition, antenatal and postnatal care, newborn health, breastfeeding, and voluntary family planning.

Our commitment to serving vulnerable communities remains unwavering as we continue investing our own resources while building partnerships that will help us expand the project's impact.

4. Project ActivitiesMaternal Health Education

We continued conducting community outreach and health education programmes focused on maternal health, antenatal care, postnatal care, newborn wellbeing, breastfeeding, healthy pregnancy practices, and maternal nutrition. Our goal is to equip women and families with knowledge that promotes healthier pregnancies and safer childbirth.

Family Planning Awareness

We continued promoting voluntary family planning education by encouraging informed decision-making, healthy birth spacing, and access to accurate reproductive health information through community engagement and awareness campaigns.

Samony Natural Nutraceutical Diet Products

We continued developing Samony Natural Nutraceutical Diet Products to promote improved nutrition and overall wellbeing. Proper nutrition before, during, and after pregnancy is essential for healthy mothers and babies, and our research aims to provide safe, nutritious dietary solutions that complement healthy lifestyles.

Nutrient-Dense Fortified Food Products

Development also continued on our nutrient-dense fortified food products designed to improve nutritional intake among women, children, and vulnerable households, helping to reduce malnutrition and improve family health.

Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub)

Through our Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub), we continued promoting education in food innovation, nutrition, food safety, food processing, and entrepreneurship. FIT-Hub supports community capacity building while encouraging the production of safe, nutritious foods that contribute to improved maternal and family health.

5. Social Enterprise Support

Our internal social enterprise remains the backbone of this project, enabling us to continue community outreach and health education despite the absence of external funding.

Through our social enterprise, we support awareness campaigns, nutrition education, research, and innovation in Samony Natural Nutraceutical Diet Products, nutrient-dense fortified food products, and the Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub). These initiatives complement our maternal healthcare programme by promoting better nutrition, healthier families, and sustainable community development.

For the past three years, we have consistently donated food during the pilot testing of our nutraceutical diet products and nutrient-dense fortified foods. These donations have benefited vulnerable individuals and families while helping us improve product quality, safety, and nutritional value.

6. Estimated Impact

Despite limited financial resources, the project has continued to make encouraging progress.

Community Reach

Approximately 30–50 women and family members reached through maternal health and nutrition awareness activities.
10–15 households engaged in community outreach on maternal nutrition, child health, breastfeeding, newborn care, and family wellbeing.
Increased awareness of healthy pregnancy practices, maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, and voluntary family planning.

Innovation Progress

Continued development of Samony Natural Nutraceutical Diet Products and nutrient-dense fortified food products.
Strengthened planning for future maternal nutrition support programmes through FIT-Hub.

Capacity Building

Increased community knowledge of maternal nutrition, food safety, healthy family practices, and sustainable food production.

7. Challenges

The absence of external financial support continues to limit our ability to expand maternal health education, nutrition programmes, community outreach, and support services for women and families.

Additional funding will enable us to strengthen maternal health interventions, improve nutrition support, and reach more women, children, and caregivers across Nigeria.

8. Prospects and Future Plans

In the coming months, we aim to:

Expand maternal health and family planning education programmes.
Strengthen maternal nutrition initiatives through Samony Natural Nutraceutical Diet Products and nutrient-dense fortified foods.
Increase community outreach to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and caregivers.
Expand the Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub) as a centre for nutrition education and food innovation.
Build partnerships with healthcare providers, government agencies, community organizations, and development partners to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

We remain confident that future donor support will enable us to improve maternal health, strengthen family wellbeing, and contribute to healthier communities across Nigeria.

9. Conclusion

Although we have not yet received external financial support for this project, our commitment to improving maternal health and family wellbeing remains unwavering. Through our internal social enterprise, community outreach, volunteerism, research, innovation, and the Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub), we continue laying a strong foundation for healthier mothers, healthier children, and stronger communities.

At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we are committed to ensuring safe pregnancies, healthy mothers, and empowered families across Nigeria. Maternal health remains a critical challenge, particularly in underserved communities, where access to healthcare services, nutritional support, and family planning education is limited.

The “Maternal HealthCare & Family Planning in Nigeria” initiative is designed to provide comprehensive support, including healthcare guidance, access to reproductive health services, and nutrition interventions to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

A key component of this initiative is the Samony Wellness Cafeteria Nutrients-Dense Fortified Foods, which provides essential nutrients for expectant and nursing mothers. These fortified foods enhance maternal health, strengthen immunity, and support the healthy development of babies, complementing our broader maternal care programs.

Project Activities During This Period

During this reporting period, the project team has focused on:

• Community outreach and education on maternal health and family planning • Distribution of fortified foods through the Samony Wellness Cafeteria to support pregnant and nursing mothers • Collaborating with local healthcare providers to monitor maternal and child health indicators • Preparing for expanded nutrition and health workshops to reach more mothers

While direct funding through the platform is still being mobilized, the team has worked diligently to prepare logistics, educational materials, and nutrition support plans for implementation once funds are available.

Little by Little Fundraising Campaign (17–20 March)

We are excited to remind our supporters that the Little by Little GlobalGiving fundraising campaign will run from 17th to 20th March. This campaign, while matching funds remain, offers a critical opportunity to strengthen maternal health interventions across Nigeria.

Funds raised will help to:

• Expand the Samony Wellness Cafeteria Nutrients-Dense Fortified Foods program for expectant and nursing mothers • Provide maternal health workshops, family planning education, and healthcare materials • Support community outreach initiatives to ensure sustainable maternal health improvements

Even small contributions during this campaign can create a meaningful impact, ensuring mothers receive the nutrition, care, and guidance they need for healthy pregnancies and families.

Challenges

The project faces challenges such as:

• Resource limitations – Funding is essential for nutrition, healthcare materials, and outreach programs • Community engagement – Reaching remote communities requires coordinated efforts and support • Sustainability – Ensuring continued access to nutritious foods and healthcare requires ongoing donor support

Despite these challenges, our commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes remains unwavering.

Across Nigeria, thousands of women face severe challenges in accessing quality maternal healthcare and family planning services. Many pregnancies remain high-risk due to lack of skilled care, proper nutrition, or timely medical support. For countless women, childbirth can be a daily struggle against danger, poverty, and inadequate resources.

At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we believe that every mother deserves safe pregnancy, dignified care, and the knowledge to plan her family responsibly. Our commitment to improving maternal healthcare and family planning services remains stronger than ever—even in these financially challenging times.

Through our initiative “Maternal HealthCare & Family Planning in Nigeria”, we aim to:
Reduce maternal and infant mortality

My 50th Birthday Mission: A Covenant of Compassion

As I celebrate my 50th birthday, I have set a personal goal:
To provide maternal health services, family planning education, and nutritional support to at least 1,000 women and their families, while establishing a support system through SAMONY Wellness Cafeteria.

This is my thanksgiving to God, my commitment to humanity, and my gift to mothers and children who need hope and care the most.
But we cannot do this alone.

What We Are Planning (December – January)

1. December Outreach — Maternal Health & Nutrition Program
We aim to provide medical checkups, prenatal supplements, and nutrient-rich meals to pregnant and nursing mothers.
2. Family Planning Education Sessions
Training women and communities on responsible family planning, reproductive health, and healthy living.
3. January Support Program
Distribution of nutrition packages, maternal care kits, and family planning resources to underserved families.
4. Continuous Follow-Up & Community Engagement
Home visits and counseling for mothers and families to ensure ongoing support and empowerment.
