Community surveillance remains a vital part of responding to the ongoing Ebola emergency in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The latest ECDC update reports 8,116 confirmed Bundibugyo virus disease cases and 3,924 deaths, with transmission continuing across 63 health zones in seven provinces.
Development Alert continues promoting community awareness so that unusual illness and potential health concerns can be communicated quickly through appropriate channels.
Our community-based approach encourages early reporting, accurate information sharing, hygiene and cooperation with trained health teams.
Communities are often the first place where changes in health conditions become visible. Strengthening their ability to recognize and communicate concerns can complement formal surveillance systems.
