Dear Donor,
Uganda's successful containment of its 2026 Ebola outbreak provides valuable lessons for communities and organizations working to strengthen preparedness.
Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases before completing the required 42-day period without a new confirmed case.
Development Alert continues emphasizing lessons from this experience, including rapid reporting, community cooperation, surveillance, infection prevention, contact tracing and strong communication between communities and health authorities.
The continuing DRC outbreak demonstrates why these lessons remain relevant beyond Uganda's borders.
Preparedness should become part of long-term community resilience rather than an activity that begins only after an outbreak has already expanded.
The lessons learned from one emergency can help communities prepare more effectively for the next.
