Dear Donor,
A significant new development in the Ebola response is the continued geographic expansion of the outbreak.
WHO's latest report confirms that Dungu Health Zone in Haut-Uélé Province has become the newest affected health zone. Dungu borders South Sudan, bringing the total number of affected health zones in the DRC to 63.
This expansion reinforces the importance of surveillance and preparedness in communities far beyond the original outbreak epicenter.
Development Alert continues promoting awareness among communities connected through travel, trade, family networks and transport routes.
Our community preparedness work emphasizes early reporting, hygiene, appropriate healthcare seeking and communication with health authorities.
Geographic expansion also demonstrates why preparedness must reach rural and underserved communities rather than remaining concentrated around major towns.
WHO reports that transmission remains heterogeneous, with some areas experiencing declines while other locations continue reporting cases.
Every newly affected area makes community awareness and early detection even more important.
